Fulfilling my friend’s wish who always says her saliva is drooling whenever I cooked this braised pork belly buns dish. Many of us know how to cook instant noodles but how many of us know how unhealthy it is to our health? For a healthier choice, discard the packet of MSG, try blanching the instant noodles to get rid of the palm oil content then stir-fry the instant noodles and adding in some vegetables to your meal. Note: Usually instant noodles have 10 times oil content and has high sodium, with added MSG. Though it is easy and quick to cook but yet cheap and nice to eat, it is best not to eat them always. Reasons being, instant noodles can increase heart disease risk factors, including elevated blood sugar, cholesterol, triglyceride and blood pressure levels which is harmful to the body. Bee Hoon is always a healthier choice as it has a lower fat and calorie compared to the Yellow Noodles or Maggie Mee. So, today, Mama Ong shall be cooking Vegetarian Fried Bee Hoon. It seems easy to cook Fried Bee Hoon but in order to cook it just right, not too wet and not too oily, requires some skills, accompanied with the right wok and heat. Fret not! Practice makes perfect. Just need to follow my simple step by step video on how to cook this dish and yours would be just as good. Tips: Need to soak Bee Hoon in cold icy water for 15 mins and cut away the hard edges before cooking it. If you have an air-fryer at home, you may choose to air-fry your vegetarian goose, vegetarian char siew and spring rolls, instead of oil frying them, for a healthier choice. To all Taro/Yam fans! Here is a dish made from Taro/Yam. Abacus Seed (算盘子) is a traditional Hakka dish. This is an auspicious dish usually eaten during Chinese New Year period (Reunion dinner, 1st day of CNY or even beginning of spring / 立春) as it symbolises ‘Abundance of Wealth’ and ‘Prosperity’. It does require a lot of manual labour, time and patience for this dish. Well, think on the positive side, “No Pain, No Gain” right! Usually, minced pork is added in this dish but this time round I did not add any. For those meat lovers, you may want to add some minced meat but do remember to marinate it or increase the amount of seasoning sauce as well. Cultivated or commercially raised edible frog legs, are considered to be the best delicacy of Chinese and French cuisine. In Singapore cuisine, this food is usually stir-fried and consumed with porridge. The taste and texture of frog meat is quite similar between chicken and fish.
