What is a Tax ID in the UK and who has to take it?
In the UK, a Tax ID is Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR). It is sent by HMRC to individuals and businesses who are liable to pay tax or are self-employed individuals, company directors and landlords. It will be required to complete Self Assessment tax returns, pay taxes and contact HMRC. Everybody does not have one, but you probably need a UTR, which is your Tax ID, in case you do not work in the standard PAYE employment.
